Burnt Toast began long before we ever chose the name. Our story started in 2012 in the sun soaked, remote coastal town of Exmouth, Western Australia, a place where the beaches are pristine, the wildlife is unforgettable, and the summer heat regularly climbs above 40 degrees. It was paradise, but it was also a place where sun protection wasn’t optional, especially for little ones.

After the birth of my daughter, I found myself constantly adjusting floppy hats that slid into her eyes, searching for something that could keep up with our beach filled days while actually staying put. Nothing quite worked. Out of necessity and a whole lot of love, Little Georgie was born.

I wanted hats that could withstand countless adventures, protect my kids from the harsh Australian sun, and still be bright, colourful, and fun. They also needed to be kind to the planet, made from eco friendly fabrics that felt good in every sense. We tested, tweaked, redesigned, and tried again. And again. And again.

The journey was far from smooth. We faced setbacks, delays, and moments where giving up would have been the easier choice. We had plans fall apart and new ones slowly take shape. Through every challenge, we kept going.

Eventually, life led us away from Exmouth and into a new chapter. Burnt Toast has been a huge part of that move, guiding us forward and reminding us why we started in the first place. The name Burnt Toast reflects our story perfectly. Not everything goes to plan. Sometimes things burn, break, or fall apart. But you scrape off the edges, you start again, and you keep moving forward.

Today, Burnt Toast continues to create durable, adventure ready hats for kids who explore, splash, climb, and live boldly. Every design carries a piece of our journey, born on the beaches of Exmouth, shaped by family, strengthened by challenges, and carried with us into every new place we call home.
